Nestled between Wallerawang and Yetholme, about a two-and-a-half hour drive from the city or five hours by train from Central Station, Meadow Flat in New South Wales transforms into a shimmering wonderland every autumn.

The highlight is Curly Dick Road, where towering poplar trees, known for their elegant, upright forms, burst into vivid shades of yellow from late March through April.

With their distinctive four-lobed leaves and golden hues, these poplars create an extraordinary natural corridor that looks like something straight out of a fairytale.

‘This picturesque lane comes alive with vibrant autumn hues, especially the stunning golden poplar trees turning bright yellow!’ one traveller shared.

Another enthused, ‘This place is absolutely beautiful during autumn, especially from mid-April to early May when the golden poplar trees are at their peak. The whole road turns bright yellow, and it feels like you’re driving through a scene from a movie.’

With its breathtaking backdrop and explosion of colour, Meadow Flat has become a magnet for photographers and nature lovers alike.

One visitor described the scene as ‘a treat to watch the stunning yellow golden hue during the autumn season,’ adding that it’s a ‘great spot to take pictures of fall colours.’
