Toddler airlifted to hospital after being struck by a car in horror start to the NSW school holidays

A three-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after he was run over by a car in a horror start to the school holidays.

The toddler was found next to a car on Chounding Crescent in Bellambi, between Sydney and Wollongong, about 9am on Wednesday.

Horrified witnesses rushed to jack up the car and pull the boy to safety.

The 64-year-old female driver, who is not related to the toddler, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing but was not injured.

It’s believed she was reversing out of a driveway when the child was struck.

‘Came out this morning after hearing yelling and there was a little boy under the car. It was pretty bad. Crying, screaming, making a lot of noise,’ a resident told TNV.

Intensive care paramedics drove the boy to an oval on nearby Bott Road where he was airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers established a crime scene and have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.

NSW Police appealed for anyone with information, dashcam and/or CCTV footage to contact Wollongong Police District or Crime Stoppers.
