The president, who is in Florida for Thanksgiving, vowed revenge shortly after the horror shooting unfolded after 2.30pm ET on Wednesday.
DC police confirmed one suspect is in custody. Sources told the Associated Press that the alleged gunman was also shot and has injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Panicked tourists were forced to flee for their lives shortly after shots rang out at the corner of 17th and H Streets in the northwest quadrant of the city, roughly two blocks northwest of the White House.
