Trump triggers his critics with controversial decision on $400M Qatar private plane: Live updates
Published: | Updated:
Donald Trump triggered his critics as his Department of Defense formally accepted a $400 million gift from Qatar in the form of a ‘flying palace’ jet.
The Pentagon announced on Wednesday that Pete Hegseth followed all ‘rules’ when accepting the massive plane that will be used as a temporary Air Force One.
‘The secretary of defense has accepted a Boeing 747 from Qatar in accordance with all federal rules and regulations,’ said spokesperson Sean Parnell.
But the decision quickly started a firestorm on X, with one user writing Trump is leading the most ‘corrupt administration to ever hold office.’
The president spent the day meeting with South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Their meeting soon spun out of control as Trump put the South African president on the spot by live streaming a video of ongoing ‘white genocide’ in his country.

MAGA critics go wild after Pete Hegseth formally accepts Qatar’s $400M plane gift
The Trump administration announced it formally accepted a $400 million plane from Qatar setting off a firestorm of backlash.
Leaders on both sides of the aisle have criticized the president over the supposed gift – urging him to be wary of accepting a ‘bribe.’
Afterward, it would be donated to his presidential library.
But top Democats, including Jamie Raskin, are unconvinced.
Raskin introduced a bill earlier this week to try and block Trump from accepting the plane.
He called it ‘unconstitutional’ for a foreign present of ‘any kind’ to be accepted by the administration.
Senator Brian Schatz called the move ‘shockingly corrupt.’
Meanwhile, the Pentagon chief spokesman pushed back in a statement:
‘The secretary of defense has accepted a Boeing 747 from Qatar in accordance with all federal rules and regulations.’
‘The Department of Defense will work to ensure proper security measures and functional-mission requirements are considered for an aircraft used to transport the president of the United States,’ he added.

By Nikki Schwab, Chief Campaign Correspondent at the White House
President Donald Trump celebrated the Florida Gators’ NCAA basketball championship win at the White House on Wednesday – and commended the players for being taller than son Barron.
You know I have a son who’s 6 foot 9, but 6 foot 9 is not – I now see, he always says, “Dad, I’m not that tall compared to some of these guys.” And now, I understand what he’s talking about.
Besides coach Todd Golden and the players – who presented Trump with a signed basketball and a ’47’ jersey – the president also invited former NFL player – who played for the University of Florida in college – Tim Tebow to the stage.
Most of Florida’s congressional delegation was also on hand, as was Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who Trump accidentally dubbed ‘senator,’ Rubio’s previous post. Attorney General Pam Bondi also attended.
‘Oh boy, oh boy, these are great looking guys,’ the president told the players. ‘These are the tallest human beings I’ve ever seen.’
