Two people treated for injuries after fire breaks out at US Capitol’s Rayburn Office Building

At least two people are being treated for injuries after a fire broke out Thursday evening at the US Capitol’s Rayburn Office Building.

Authorities said an electrical fire broke out on the trolley that connects the office building to the US Capitol while it was departing from Rayburn.

The blaze has since been extinguished, a US Capitol Police spokesperson told WJLA.

But at least two people are being medically evaluated, despite authorities saying none of the passengers on the trolley were injured, according to Fox News.

The underground trolley is one of three lines operating under US Capitol grounds for members of Congress and their staff. It has been operational since the 1960s.

It remains unclear who may have been on the trolley at the time of the fire, which came just moments before members of Congress were set to vote on two bills –  including one to repeal restrictions on the importation and exportation of liquid natural gas.

The trolley is now closed as authorities assess the threat of smoke, Politico reports.
