A plane passenger who treated herself to a first class flight upgrade was shocked to find a ‘filthy’ seat waiting for her.
The United Airline’s passenger shared her disappointment over the lackluster experience by posting a picture to Reddit.
‘First time upgrading and it is really dirty,’ the user wrote.
‘I’m pretty disappointed with the lack of cleanliness after treating myself with a first-ever upgrade for my birthday. Is this normal?’ she asked.
In the photos, crumbs could be seen along the edges of the seat and near the remote control for the screen.
In a second photo, more debris had gathered in the storage area, indicating it also hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned.
While the woman was appalled the seat hadn’t been better prepared, other Reddit users were not overly surprised.
‘On the dirtier end of normal, but this isn’t surprising anyone,’ one user wrote.

‘Honest to god I’d rather have the cleaning crew just walk through the aisles with a leaf blower and I can just use the disinfecting wipes myself,’ snarked another.
‘They give the cleaners like five minutes to clean the whole plane,’ claimed another. ‘They don’t wipe anything down. Just cross the seatbelts and pick up trash. Once in awhile they will clean every tray table with the same rag. They also clean the whole bathroom with one rag! They only care about the next flight taking off.’
Another agreed, writing: ‘Cleaning crews gotta work fast. I wouldn’t call them lazy, but their goal seems to be speed as opposed to total cleanliness. It’s give and take with pax expecting fast turns.’
In a comment under the post, the passenger said she plans on reporting the mess to United.
DailyMail.com has reached out to United Airlines for comment.
It’s no secret that planes are not the cleanest vessels to travel in but flight attendants have previously spilled some of the more gruesome parts of the aircrafts – with some surprising spots.
Cher, a Texas-based cabin crew expert, has been working in the air for five years, and recently shared the places she would consider the grossest.
‘Number one, I’ve never seen the window shade get wiped off ever in my career,’ she shared.

Cher then revealed another stomach-churning fact about the airplane bathrooms – revealing people often vomit in the sink, admitting she’s seen it ‘numerous times.’
‘If you drop something in there I’d consider it a loss,’ she advised.
‘Never have I seen the sinks get cleaned out.’
Cher also said the sink water should be avoided, and there’s a reason you’re not allowed to drink from it.
‘[It’s] filthy,’ she said, adding it has ‘so much’ bacteria in it.
‘So washing your hands with it is probably not great,’ she helpfully added.
Staying in the restroom, Cher said ‘not once’ in her career has she seen the toilet get cleaned.
As for the carpet, Cher has seen it vomited on and and passengers rub their bare toes on it – much to her disgust.
Although they keep you safe, Cher warned that seat belts are one of the filthiest parts of the seat.
‘Not just the buckle part,’ she shared. ‘I’ve seen blowout diapers and vomit on it numerous times.’
