An urgent search has been launched for a man accused of ‘serious sex offences’ who allegedly fled police custody in Perth’s CBD.
WA Police said officers are urgently seeking the whereabouts of Robert Kevin McCullough, 39, who escaped custody about 4:45pm on Friday.
It is understood he had appeared in the Perth Central Law Courts on ‘serious sexual offences’ earlier that morning.
He had been remanded into custody before he fled.
‘Mr McCullough has an extensive history of a variety of different offences,’ Detective Superintendent Kellie Taylor told reporters on Saturday, ABC reports.
‘We don’t believe he will be violent towards any person, but he has already demonstrated a willingness to not be in custody and anyone that is on the run is unpredictable.’
Police do not believe McCullough used violence to evade custody, with Det Supt telling the media ‘it has more to do, we believe, with deceit and trickery’.
She said officers have visited known associates of McCullough across the city.

‘Assisting someone who has escaped legal custody is a criminal offence, so anyone that is considering assisting McCullough should think again,’ she said.
‘Specialist units are involved, all being coordinated from our state command centre, and we anticipate (having) him in custody soon.’
McCullough has been described as 175cm tall, medium build, blue eyes, with a fair complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark T-shirt and long dark trousers.
If sighted, officers have urged members of the public not to approach McCullough but to call police immediately on 131444.
