Watch the shocking moment a man is allegedly coward punched by a complete stranger

A man accused of breaking a stranger’s jaw in an alleged unprovoked attack has faced court.

Jeremy Wilton Wise, 44, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray before he appeared in court from his hospital bed under police guard on Wednesday.

Police were called to Walker Street in North Sydney on Monday night following reports a man was allegedly being aggressive towards members of the public, including a group of schoolgirls.

CCTV showed Wise walking along nearby Mount Street past a male pedestrian wearing headphones.

Wise turned around and attacked the passerby from behind by punching him in the side of the face.

The victim was knocked to the ground as shocked witnesses rushed to his aid.

The man, 49, was treated paramedics at the scene for a broken jaw and taken to  Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.

One shocked bystander said a number of men tried to help.

‘I was coming down the stairs here and I hear someone screaming. So, I came down, I see a guy on the floor,’ the witness told Nine News.

‘Another guy on him, yelling.

‘We start, we are two, three people around, and we start to try to push the guy out.’

Wise appeared via videolink from his hospital bed under police guard on Wednesday.

He was denied bail to appear before court again next week.
