If you know makeup, you know Hourglass, the cult beauty brand with viral hits like the Ambient Lighting Finishing Powder and Vanish Airbrush Concealer.
For months, rumours have spread that the brand was leaving its longtime retailer, MECCA. Obviously panic ensued, but it’s since been announced that the brand will instead be launching an exclusive website in Australia and New Zealand (sign up here), while also launching into Sephora. There’a whispers of more in real life, tangible retail experiences to come… but watch this space.
The reason for the Hourglass move is a continued move towards global expansion. Some consumers also assumed it has something to do with MECCA’s tight exclusivity contracts, but with Hailey Bieber’s Rhode launching into stores in the coming weeks, there’s still lots of newness expected in their stores.
Hourglass, on the other hand has such a strong brand presence in our market, that they’ll do just fine. If anything, it will allow the brand to interact directly with consumers and offer curated brand experiences. Not to mention exclusive, first to market launches. We’re excited.
