A wild conspiracy theory has emerged about Delta Goodrem after she made headlines for her lavish wedding to Matthew Copley.

A Reddit user posted to the platform this week to ask, ‘What caused Delta Goodrem to lose popularity so fast?’

Social media users flooded the comments section with possible reasons why the Born To Try hitmaker suddenly dipped in the estimation of Australian audiences.

‘Aged past her intended audience and never updated her style,’ one person guessed. 

Another person similarly wrote: ‘She was manufactured by the pop machine and now past her use-by date.’

‘She was just so predictable,’ one more wrote. 

‘They spammed her everywhere as well,’ someone else said, which invited a response from another Reddit user. 

‘Big time. There was a point where Channel Nine had her on everything. Now they have Sophie Monk for that,’ they wrote. 

Another person thoughtfully added: ‘Is it possible she was only ever artificially famous? Some people rise to fame because they are blisteringly talented, or controversial, or happen to be in the right place at the right time.’

They added: ‘Some people become famous because they are talented enough, good-looking enough, and compliant enough for a PR machine to build fame around them… Once that machine moves on to younger, prettier, more exploitable talent, that fame evaporates. 

‘I always assumed Delta was in the camp – half a decade or so of fame, another decade of being a B-list celebrity on TV, then a lifetime of playing at local RSL clubs.’

Despite the criticism, some of Delta’s fans were quick to defend her. 

‘I think she’s beautiful and has a wonderful voice,’ commented one admirer. 

‘There are thousands of other artists out there who would love to be a big “failure” like Delta,’ another wrote. 

Delta is on a career high and, earlier this year, spent time in the UK performing a series of exclusive shows to mark 20 years since her iconic Mistaken Identity album. 

The pop star even thrilled her fans with a live performance at a London train station in May.

The Australian songstress sat down behind the Sir Elton John piano at St Pancras International Station, to the immense delight of the gathered crowd.

Delta’s last Aussie gig was at the Sydney Opera House in April as part of her Mistaken Identity 20th anniversary celebration. 

The veteran singer shocked fans when she invited Cody Simpson to the stage.  

Delta and Cody looked at ease as they performed an emotional duet of her song, Almost Here, which she originally sang with her former boyfriend Brian McFadden.

Cody later took to social media to reflect on the career milestone. 

‘Thank you to the legendary Delta Goodrem for the honour tonight,’ he began.

‘It was a pleasure to sing at the Sydney Opera House for the first time, and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Delta’s album Mistaken Identity.’

The special performance was held to celebrate the immense success of Delta’s second album, which reached number one in Australia and also charted in the UK and New Zealand.

Delta recently married the love of her life, Matthew Copley, in Malta.

The couple exchanged vows in June in the historic St Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina, which was built in the 12th century.

The reception then took place at Naxxar’s Palazzo Parisio, an estate with exquisite gardens that was constructed in the 18th century.

The blushing bride stunned in an off-the-shoulder wedding gown with a racy sweetheart neckline, designed by South Australian fashion designer Paul Vasileff.
