Will Ferrell stuns viewers as TV cameras catch him dressed up as an NHL REFEREE in his rinkside seats

Will Ferrell took on one of his most bizarre roles yet after transforming himself into an NHL referee at a Los Angeles Kings game on New Year’s Day.

As the Kings locked horns with the Tampa Bay Lightning, LA native Ferrell was spotted wearing full referee attire in the stands… much to the amusement of his fellow spectators and fans online.

The legendary actor was decked out in a typical NHL official’s outfit on at Crypto.com Arena, complete with a black-and-white striped shirt, black helmet and red armbands.

And in true Will Ferrell fashion, he fully immersed himself in the character when he was seen calling penalties from outside the glass.

After he was shown on the big screen, the FanDuel Sports Network team interviewed Ferrell in a hilarious moment on their live broadcast.

‘I’ve always been in support of the NHL referees,’ he said, before joking: ‘In fact, I trained two of the guys out here. They are two of my prized students, Brandon and Francis. They are calling a heck of a game.’

Ferrell, who is a diehard Kings fan, has previously worn wacky costumes to the team’s games, including when he dressed as his character from the 2003 comedy movie ‘Elf’ during a 2024 appearance.

The Hollywood superstar is no stranger to sporting events and also regular appears at LAFC’s Major League Soccer games, and is a co-owner of the team.

On Thursday night, not even having an extra referee on their side helped the LA Kings as they fell to a 5-3 loss to the impressive Lightning.

Tampa Bay’s victory takes them to 24-13-3 for the season, while Los Angeles is now 16-14-9, good enough for sixth place in the Pacific Division.

The Kings are on a four-season playoff run but have lost against the Edmonton Oilers in the first round in each of them.
