Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City evacuated after sounds of gunfire

An amusement park in Missouri was evacuated following reports of possible gunfire, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

An off-duty officer working at the Worlds of Fun theme park was notified around 9:10 p.m. by a patron who reported hearing what sounded like gunshots, KCTV5 reported.

Police from several agencies responded because of the number of people at the park, according to KSHB.

Parkgoers were seen scrambling, with many turning to social media to share the chaos. 

‘Oh my god. Everybody has to run, oh my god. C’mon everyone has to run. I’m so scared,’ one parkgoer posted on Facebook, as she was seen running through the frantic scene. 

As of 10:30 p.m., KCPD said there is no evidence of anyone being shot. The department added that there were ‘multiple disturbances officers broke up,’ because of ‘several juveniles fighting.’

No weapon has been found, and no injuries have been reported at this time.

The source of the noise remains unknown.

The evacuation comes on the opening night of Worlds of Fun’s annual Halloween Haunt event.
