Zayn Malik Reveals He Was Never ‘In Love’ With Gigi Hadid In Call Her Daddy Interview
Zayn Malik has revealed he was never “in love” with his ex-girlfriend Gigi Hadid during a bombshell chat on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
The former One Direction bandmate said his perception of his relationship with Gigi — who he dated on-and-off for six years from 2015 — has evolved in the years since they broke up.
“At that moment in time, I might have thought it was love, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realised maybe it wasn’t,” Zayn said. “Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don’t feel like it was love.”
The singer clarified that while he might not have been “in love” with Gigi, he still cares deeply for her as the mother of his daughter, five-year-old Khai.
“To be fair, just to have this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this earth and I have the utmost respect for her. I will always love her, but I don’t know if I was in love with her,” Mailk said.
“I do love her a crazy amount, but no, I don’t think I was in love with her at that point, otherwise I would have been a better version of myself,” he added.
Looking ahead at his future relationships, Zayn said he is “not looking for a public relationship again” because “they don’t work for me”, perhaps referencing both Gigi and Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, who he dated for four years from 2012.
Zayn’s romance with Gigi ended after he got into an altercation with her mother, Yolanda Hadid, resulting in him being charged with four counts of harassment back in 2021.
While Gigi has explained that the pair have renewed their relationship since then — saying last year that they co-parent with “respect for each other” — it’s surprisingly not the first time Zayn has reflected on whether he ever loved the model.
In 2024, he said on The Zach Sang Show that he didn’t “know if I’ve actually truly been in love”. But he clarified in the Call Her Daddy interview that the sentiment doesn’t mean he’s rushing to find a new partner.
“I don’t find being alone scary,” he told Alex.
Gigi, meanwhile, has been dating Bradley Cooper since 2023, with reports circulating last year that the actor is looking to propose sometime soon.
