Oil price jumps to $139 a barrel in early trading

The price of oil rose to its highest level since 2008, reaching $139 a barrel, after reports of a possible US ban on its imports from Russia.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in an interview with NBC, said that in the United States, along with European allies, there is an “active discussion” about the possibility of refusing to import Russian oil.

According to two sources from Bloomberg, Washington could make a decision to ban without the participation of European allies. However, no decision has been taken on this matter yet.

According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congress is considering developing a bill to ban oil imports from Russia.

According to US official data, approximately 3% of US oil imports come from Russia.

Against the background of these statements, Brent oil futures rose at the beginning of trading on Monday, March 7 by 18% and at one point exceeded $139 a barrel.

The Japanese authorities are also negotiating with the United States and European countries over a possible embargo on oil supplies from Russia.
