Banning LGBT teaching in kindergarten and primary schools

Both houses of the Florida legislature approved Republican legislation that would ban kindergarten and elementary schools from teaching children same-sex relationships and sexual identity through third grade.

Democrats were outraged by the adoption of the bill, which they viewed as limiting the possibilities of the education system, and based on homophobia. They also fear that this law could lead to the fact that discussion of same-sex relationships in the event of parental disapproval could be limited at all stages of school education.

But Republicans insist that such sensitive issues should be discussed with children at the level of families, not schools. They also argue that the new law does not prohibit discussion of LGBT-related issues in schools, just by removing information about the issue from the curriculum.

The Florida legislature previously voted to ban abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy.
