The Minister of Housing reviews the general framework of the national strategy for urbanism and sustainable green construction

Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, reviewed the general framework of the national strategy for urbanism and sustainable green construction, during his chairmanship of the committee formed by a decision of the Prime Minister, which includes representatives of the concerned authorities, with the aim of developing a national strategy that defines priorities, mechanisms and targets to activate and improve the urbanization system. And green construction, benefiting from the experiences of different countries in this field, and using materials complementary to environmentally friendly building materials.

 

The Minister of Housing explained that during the meeting, the interactions and common axes between the strategy were reviewed. The national plan for sustainable green urbanism and construction, which is being prepared, and the relevant national strategies, in order to build on the efforts that have been achieved within the framework of other strategies, indicating that we aim for the sustainable green urbanism and building system to become the dominant feature of urbanism and construction in Egypt, leading to Healthy environmental management in construction depends on the efficient use of resources and energy, and compatibility and harmony with the surrounding environment, to enable the state to preserve its resources, which reflects positively on the economic situation of the citizen, meets his ambitions, and improves the quality of his life and future.

The Minister added that green construction is based on the management and rationalization of water and energy, the consumption of building materials, the integration of renewable energy, sustainable urban mobility, the quality of the internal and external built environment, and integrated waste management, and these pillars lead to reducing resource consumption ( Energy – water – building materials), mitigating the impact of climate change, enhancing flexibility and ability to adapt to climate change, and achieving low-emission economic growth in the urban and green building sector.

 

He pointed out Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar said that the application of the green urbanism system aims to improve the quality of life and raise the efficiency of services and infrastructure, by raising awareness of the importance of green urbanism and construction among state agencies at various levels, in addition to preserving natural resources (water and energy through rationalization of consumption). And providing new and renewable sources), by defining the responsibilities, roles and interactions required to achieve the strategic objectives and the participation of relevant parties, in addition to confronting the effects of climate change using mechanisms that suit Egyptian society and determining the necessary executive strategies, through the availability of a mechanism to link and integrate the urban and green building strategy with Strategies for other sectors related to urbanization and construction.

 

The Minister of Housing stressed that there must be the ability to measure the extent of application of indicators and standards for green urbanism, through the presence of a legal framework or Legislation, the existence of an institution responsible for monitoring commitment to applying indicators and standards, and setting incentives to encourage workers in the field of real estate development, construction and construction to shift towards a green urbanism system.
