Cruel Aussies shame the ‘ugliest’ names in the country – and some are very common

Australians are sharing the worst names they’ve ever heard – and some are far more common than you’d think.

Aussies listed the more familiar names they can’t stand including Mercedes,  Karen, Trent and Hamish.

Others said they had been taken aback by some stranger names such as Jebecka, Galaxee and Keitha.

‘What are the worst names for Australian men and women that are commonly found today and why?’ a man asked on Reddit drawing in hundreds of replies.

‘It seems to have died down a little in the last couple of years, but any kid named Malachai was a guaranteed turd. This effect was multiplied by the multitude of various misspelled versions. Malarkai, Malakye, Malaki etc,’ one said.

‘Every little kid I’ve met named Kai already has a mullet and rat tail by kindergarten,’ a second said and a third replied: ‘Not to mention the related Jai/Jy/Jye’.

‘So many Tye/Ty/Tais too,’ another added.

One person pointed out it would be tough to be called Karen after the name became slang for an older or middle-aged woman who is excessively entitled or demanding, particularly in customer service settings.

‘I’m a bit older but every Jason was a bit rough and every Vanessa was “difficult”,’ one user answered.

‘If a guy is named Hamish and under the age of 20, he’s a little s***,’ laughed another.

‘Nevaeh. No question,’ a third said and a fourth responded: ‘You’ll never meet a well-adjusted bloke called Trent’.

One person said their friend named their son Aiden which would be fine if they didn’t call him ‘Aids’ for short.

‘The worst names are ones that people name their kids after things they can’t afford, eg: Mercedes, Chanel,’ someone laughed.

‘Anything that is a normal, average, everyday name, but spelt in a f***ed up way using Y, X, Z or any name that is a country, state or city,’ another said.

Users started sharing the strangest names they had ever heard including one person who said they had met a woman called ‘Jebecka’, a cross between Jessica and Rebecca, while another knew someone called ‘Galaxee’.

‘We have the usual Brendan, Narelle, Janelle, Levi and Rhyleigh in the family but the best name is Raevan. Kids at school include Bodhi, Jarrah, Cruz, Coco, Ocean, River, Lotus and Indiana. Neighbour just called their child Alaska,’ one parent commented.

A second answered: ‘Brothers at my son’s school: Jaxton and Braxton. Go by Jax and Brax.’

‘My nephew’s name is Nalu which is apparently Hawaiian for ‘wave’. We have exactly 0% Hawaiian heritage and it’s just the most pretentious s*** ever,’ one uncle laughed.

‘Ex work mate called her son Zayvier. Kids at the daycare my daughter goes to are Navy, Chili, Ryver, Jaxxon, and Jett, and not to be forgotten is poor little Khaleesi. Then there’s Melania. A toddler with the same name as Trump’s wife?!’ another user said.

‘Keitha. It’s like Keith, but with an a,’ someone chimed in.

More of the worst names Aussies have heard

‘There was a Reddit sub blabbing on about Australian Idol and someone said one of the ‘singers’ name was Ripley. I said I couldn’t believe it, but it went over their head.’

‘Don’t call a kid Jaxson. It’s cringeworthy.’

‘I taught a child called Decksxtaah. Poor kid. His sister was Moonleighah. Dog was called Shane. They had an oops baby but long before I left. Its name was Belocidy.’

‘There are still some Duanes and Dwaynes out there.’

‘There was an ‘Onya Cloud’ at my son’s playgroup. I don’t know if the Cloud was a middle name or a surname, but either way it’s funny.’

‘Any U.S state or city as a name. Brooklyn, Dakota ect.’

‘I have a distant relative who named her son Linkin.’

‘I knew someone who named her son Harley. Except that’s not how it was spelt. It was Harleigh. And don’t get me started on the Melowdees and the Sindees.’

‘Way too many kids being named Noah these days.’

‘Used to work with a Trent and a Brent ; Trent lived for gossip and drama, and could be an utter b****, he threw himself into the whole mean girl personae, and Brent? Brent threw chairs.’
