Kyrgyzstan will stop accepting Russian Mir cards from April 5

In Kyrgyzstan, from April 5, they will stop servicing Russian Mir bank cards. About it reported on the website of the Kyrgyz national payment system “Elkart”. The reason for this decision was economic sanctions imposed by the US Treasury Department against Russia due to its military invasion of Ukraine.

ATMs will no longer accept Mir cards in Kyrgyzstan; it will be impossible to pay with them both in offline stores and on the Internet. Transfers from card to card will also become impossible within the country’s payment system.

The Russian National Payment Card System JSC, the operator of Mir cards, fell under direct US sanctions. However, late last year, US President Joe Biden signed a decree that allows for secondary restrictions to be introduced against any organization that violates sanctions against Russia.

Previously, almost all banks in Armenia, some banks in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Vietnam and Turkey, as well as the Samsung Pay and Apple Pay systems, had already stopped working with Mir cards.

Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Olga Skorobogatova stated in the State Duma that the Central Bank is looking for a solution to the problem of receiving “Mir” abroad.
