Mufti of the Republic: There is no special supplication for completing the Qur’an

Dr. Shawqi Allam – Mufti of the Republic, Head of the General Secretariat of Fatwa Houses and Bodies in the World, said: Anyone who follows the history of Muslims will find that Muslims have excelled in astronomy, yet they have not dispensed with the legitimate sighting of the crescents throughout the ages due to their certainty in the legal importance of the crescents. It entails the provisions of Hajj, Umrah, the number of women, and other provisions.

This came during his daily Ramadan interview on the “Ask the Mufti” program. With the journalist Hamdi Rizk, who was shown on Sada El Balad satellite channel, adding, His Eminence: There is absolutely no contradiction between astronomy and the law represented by the legal vision, as the two sciences are complementary and not contradictory, and there is no wonder about that. We are a nation commanded to adopt the causes of worldly material science that is beneficial to humanity in its various specializations. And the commandment is to fast and break the fast in order to see it.

His Eminence the Mufti pointed out that the definitive astronomical calculation cannot contradict the correct sighting, as each of them has its own field, as the astronomical calculation is concerned with the birth of the crescent and its stay on the horizon after sunset, and likewise the sighting is guided by the astronomical calculation in responding. On the witness who claims to have a vision while he was not born at all, meaning that the account is denied and not proven.

His Eminence explained that the vision is through the scientific legal committees that include jurists and specialists in astronomy and surveying, and there are six committees, spread throughout the Republic of Egypt. Arabic in its length and breadth, in places selected by the Egyptian Survey Authority and the Institute of Meteorology with its experts and scientists, and with the full cooperation of the governors of these places where the conditions are met to facilitate observing the crescent moon.

As for some people raising controversy regarding the unification of the sighting or the difference Insights between Islamic countries. His Eminence settled the controversy, saying: Islamic jurisprudence is broad and broad, so there is no need for dispute. It is best for a Muslim to adhere to and adhere to the vision of his country. To avoid confusion and conflict.

In response to a question about what acts of obedience after Ramadan and whether all obediences of Ramadan should be continued, His Eminence the Mufti said: A Muslim can do in a month other than Ramadan what he did of goodness and worship as well, as he held. During Ramadan, the Muslim abstains from things that break the fast, avoids all words and deeds that spoil the fast, stays away from falling into places of sin, and watches God Almighty in secret and public, so he emerges from the school of fasting with a good soul and good character, and then he can abstain, avoid, and stay away from anything other than Ramadan. He made it possible for him to do so, and likewise the secret and the public became equal to him in Ramadan, so he can remain consistent in that after it. Evidenced by its occurrence in Ramadan, it is no secret that consolidating these meanings achieves the well-being of the nation and society, and it is one of the purposes of the worship of fasting, which instills these noble morals in the members of the nation, one by one.

The Mufti added: The Muslim should take advantage of these occasions. Blessed and noble seasons are a starting point for the strength of his certainty, the firmness of his faith, the continuity of purifying himself, refining his needs, controlling his desires and lusts, and upholding the status of morals and values. Because just as this is required in the month of Ramadan, it is also required in other months, and over time and throughout life, until the highest goal is achieved by piety and monitoring of God Almighty, and abandoning what God has forbidden, in addition to the fact that good deeds are always required and their reward will not end after the end of Ramadan. The reward for most good deeds is multiplied tenfold. As in the Almighty’s saying: “Whoever brings a good deed will have ten times the like thereof, and whoever brings an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like of it, and they will not be wronged.” [الأنعام: 160]

His Eminence also pointed out that the lack of enthusiasm in observing good values and good morals is something that is not strange to human nature and conditions. Because it does not follow one pattern; Sometimes a person is energetic and active, and at other times he is stagnant and lazy. That is why God Almighty has graciously intertwined the seasons of blessing and goodness. They are successive and repetitive, with each of them being distinguished by a special virtue and advantage. After Ramadan comes the month of Shawwal, in which it is recommended for a Muslim to fast six days of it. Then comes the season of Hajj, which is a blessed season in which mercy and forgiveness are spread to the pilgrims and the people of the situation, and then seasons of obedience follow that never cease.

In response to a question, he says: Is there a specific supplication to conclude Ramadan? He said: There is no specific formula, and the best supplication is that which is mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah, but if that is not possible, a person can supplicate for whatever he wants or whatever he memorizes, as long as there is no legal violation in his supplication. A person can supplicate for himself, his family, and his neighbors, but a person must be certain of the answer of God Almighty. Because of his call, according to the words of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family: “Call upon God while you are certain of the answer, and know that God does not respond to a supplication from a heedless, distracted heart.” And the meaning of his saying, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family: “And you are certain of the answer.” That is: while you are certain that God will not return you disappointed; Because of his vast generosity, his extensive knowledge, and his complete ability, this fulfills the sincerity of the supplicant’s hope and the sincerity of his intention.

His Eminence concluded his dialogue by inviting and reminding Muslims to pay Zakat al-Fitr to those who have not paid it, even before the time of the Eid prayer.
