Negotiations between Israel and Hamas collapse in Cairo

Cairo: Hani Kamal El-Din

The radical Palestinian group Hamas has refused to accept Israel’s proposals for a ceasefire. About this on Monday evening reported from Cairo Reuters. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization in the US, EU and UK.

At the talks in Cairo, which were announced in advance, agreements were expected to be concluded between Hamas and Israel. The terms of the truce consisted of two main points: a ceasefire by the Israeli side in exchange for the release of hostages captured on October 7 last year during a Hamas attack on Israeli territory.

Following a Palestinian official’s announcement on Monday of his refusal to accept Israel’s proposed terms, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a deadline for launching the Rafah invasion operation. According to Reuters, the city has become the “last refuge” for Palestinians fleeing fighting in the Gaza Strip in recent months.

Last Sunday, Israel and Hamas sent delegations to Egypt. Mediators from Qatar and Egypt also arrived in Cairo. CIA Director William Burns also arrived in Egypt to participate in the negotiations.
