Colmar: an iridium 192 leak detected in a welding company, a security perimeter deployed
An iridium 192 leak was detected on Wednesday April 10 at the ADF factory, a company specializing in welding, in Colmar (Haut-Rhin), reports France Bleu Alsace. A gammagraph [appareil servant à détecter les rayons gamma] refuses to turn off after inspecting a weld. It emits a low dose of iridium radiation.
Teams specializing in radiological risk from the Haut-Rhin fire and rescue service (SIS68) immediately went to the site to carry out precautionary measures, indicates the prefecture in a press release. An exclusion perimeter with a radius of 130 meters was set up around the company by the police. Fifty firefighters are on the scene.
Specialists will be in Colmar on Thursday, sent by the ADF company, to try to stop the device. Businesses in the sector will remain closed until further notice. According to the Haut-Rhin prefecture, there is no risk of contamination or dispersion.
