American official: The Pentagon moved military assets to the region in anticipation of an Iranian attack on Israel

An American official told CNN: The US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) is transferring additional assets to the Middle East region to strengthen regional deterrence efforts and increase the protection of US forces.

This comes as Israel and the United States prepare for a possible Iranian attack on Israeli facilities in the country and the region on a broader scale.

According to CNN, the Pentagon is working specifically to strengthen the air defenses of the American forces stationed in Iraq and Syria, which were attacked by Iranian-backed forces more than 100 times during the period between October and February.

It is worth noting that three American soldiers were killed last January, when a drone penetrated the American air defenses at the Tower 22 base in Jordan.

CNN indicated that  The United States does not expect Iran or its proxies to attack US forces as part of its retaliation, but is transferring these assets in the event that this happens.

This comes amid fears of Iran’s response to the attack that targeted its consulate in Damascus, resulting in the killing of 7 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, including two senior advisors.

White House spokesman John Kirby announced that the United States had made changes in the locations of its forces stationed in the Middle East amid the threat of an Iranian attack on Israel.
