A Ukrainian admin of the Russian-language Wikipedia died near Bakhmut.

At the end of March 2024, Ukrainian historian and administrator of the Russian-language section of Wikipedia Yuriy Lushchai died near Bakhmut. On Wikinews noticed “Sota.”

On Luschaya’s personal page on Wikipedia reportedthat in 14.5 years he made more than 86 thousand edits, wrote more than two hundred articles and completely revised about fifty more. In his last month of participation in Wikipedia, he was in 122nd place among all participants in the Russian-language section in terms of the number of edits. He made the last edit on March 25, 2024.

Since March 28, he was considered missing after the shelling of a village near Bakhmut. It later became known that he died that day. He was accepted into the Ukrainian Armed Forces only in January 2023. In December 2023, Luschai wrote on his Wikipedia page that most of the edits are done in hospitals.

In January 2024, shortly before his 42nd birthday, Luschai composed a poem about the war. At his request, it was published after his death.
