Advance:

  • “Bridgerton’s Jonathan Bailey in talks for new ‘Jurassic World'”.
  • He would join Scarlett Johansson in the film.
  • ‘The Creator’s Gareth Edwards is directing.

Now that it has a director chosen –– ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’/’The Creator’s Gareth Edwards –– and a star ready to risk dating giant reptilian beasts (Scarlett Johansson), the pieces are beginning to fall into place. the next version of the ‘Jurassic World’ franchise.

Universal, according to deadlinenow has ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Fellow Travelers’ actor Jonathan Bailey in talks to join Johansson in the film.

Bailey, of course, is already on board a big movie (or two) that Universal is pinning its hopes on: he’ll play Fiyero in the two-part adaptation of ‘Wicked’ coming out this Thanksgiving.

What is the story of the new ‘Jurassic World’ movie?

Universal is mostly keeping details of the new film trapped behind fences and concrete barriers for now. What can we predict? Big-toothed beasts that cause problems for humans who foolishly interact with them.

A bigger question, however, is which human… It will reportedly be set in the ‘Jurassic World’ era, but won’t directly connect to the previous three films, so an appearance by characters like Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) or Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howards) seems unlikely for now, although we won’t rule anything out at this time.

From the looks of it, this new film would take the franchise in a new direction, so we also don’t predict (for now) the return of ‘Jurassic Park’ trio Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and the chaotic Malcolm by Jeff Goldblum.

Who else could be in the new ‘Jurassic World’ movie?

While Johansson is locked in and Bailey appears close to a deal, there are other actors whose names have been mentioned as potential. Avocet Daniel Richtman has noted that Dev Patel will possibly take on a role (his directorial debut, ‘Monkey Man,’ produced by Jordan Peele, was picked up for distribution and released by Universal a couple of weeks ago).

And Richtman has also mentioned that there is talk of Colman Domingo, of ‘Rustin’, ‘The Color Purple’ and –– the Universal connection –– ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ as the villain of the film. The human, of course.

It remains to be seen if any of them move from the world of rumors to reality.

Who is making the new ‘Jurassic World’ movie?

David Koepp, who wrote both the 1993 classic ‘Jurassic Park’ (directed by Steven Spielberg) and its 1997 sequel, ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’ (also directed by Spielberg, to less critical acclaim, but with a box office still healthy), crafted the script for the new film.

Veteran producer Frank Marshall, who worked on all three ‘Jurassic World’ films, is also on board this one, and the studio seems optimistic about the progress so far. And of course, Spielberg will step in since he helped birth the franchise.

When will the new ‘Jurassic World’ movie be in theaters?

Dinosaurs should be roaring onto screens on the July 2, 2025 release date.
