In Oman, 18 people died due to the rain, in the neighboring United Arab Emirates – heavy rains over the entire history of observations.

Among the dead in Oman are ten schoolchildren and an adult who were on a bus that was washed away. According to authorities, thunderstorms with strong winds and hail will continue until at least Thursday, April 18.

Continued rain is also expected in the UAE. In two days, the country received more rain than it usually receives in a year. In Dubai, which hosts the world’s busiest airport, 142 millimeters of rain were recorded, compared with 95 per year.

Planes flying to Dubai were redirected to other cities. There are about 2,500 tourists in Russia can’t fly out in the UAE due to the weather. The roads leading to Dubai Airport were flooded, as were the runways.

UAE National Meteorological Center reportedthat the current rainfall is the heaviest since 1949, when weather monitoring began in this area. Heavy rains flooded sections of major highways, schools switched to remote mode, and government agencies went remote. UAE residents were advised to stay at home and only go out if absolutely necessary.
