It was during a TGV ride from Paris to Geneva that the artist met the woman who would become the woman of his life, although he hardly expected it, more than twenty years ago. At the time, Murielle was a fan of the singer, but was very shy. He had detected a special aura in her and had offered to help her do comedy. After exchanging contact details, both kept in touch but kept their distance for several years.
“For 3 years, aware of this age difference, I said: ‘we have to take it easy’. She has to live her life“, remembered Hugues Aufray on TF1. “For 3 years, we vowed. We called each other because we wanted to talk. I’ve known her for a long time“, he said. Then, the barriers fell and the lovebirds faced the facts: they could not live without each other.

However, Hugues Aufray remained married to his wife and mother of his children, Hélène Faure. The latter was aware of his romance with Murielle and their relationship as husband and wife became entirely platonic. “I didn’t live with two women, but I didn’t disown my wife during that time. I found in Murielle what I needed, a love story. She understood that“, assured the 94-year-old singer.
Despite everything, it was not easy for Hélène to accept that her husband was in love with someone else: “I don’t think it was a great pleasure for her to discover that, but my children understood that and it happened quite naturally.“.
The interpreter of Santiano vowed to stay married to his wife until the end. And he kept his promise since it was only after her death that he asked for Murielle’s hand. “When my poor Hélène died, I said: ‘now we are free’ and we married Murielle, who waited for me for 25 years“, he concluded.
