His detention occurred a day after the deadly Pahalgam attack, amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan that claimed 26 lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, Shaw, 40, accidentally crossed the international border near Ferozepur district and was captured by Pakistani Rangers. Despite the efforts of BSF, his return had remained uncertain until the ceasefire between the two disputing countries went well into effect.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had personally assured Shaw’s wife, Rajni, of full support during this challenging time, according to an ET report.
Shaw’s family, including his pregnant wife, had traveled to Ferozepur to meet with senior BSF officials to gather more information.
“When we went to Ferozepur, senior BSF officials assured us all help and asked me to be calm and patient. I was patient all these days but given the situation, we are all worried now. I cannot take the tension anymore. I am not well. Uncertainty prevails despite the ceasefire,” she said told ET.”I wanted to seek time with the CM and would urge her to help me. I want our CM to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi for my husband’s return,” she added.
