Hundreds of lives in danger with residents evacuated and a major road shut down as crane risks tipping at any moment

Hundreds of Carlingford locals in north-west Sydney have been locked out of their homes due to concerns about the stability of a crane at a nearby construction site which adjoins high-density housing.
Wild winds ravaged Sydney on Wednesday and Pennant Hills Road was closed between Carlingford Road and Jenkins Road because the crane was seen ‘on a lean’.
It is believed two anchor pins on the crane failed and the threat of it falling forced 200 residents from nearby unit blocks to be evacuated as a precautionary measure.
The potential danger from the damaged crane lingered into Thursday, as the powerful winds had not abated, and there was no indication of when the road will reopen.
Local resident Graham Gillard was among those evacuated from their homes.
‘When we were evacuated, the police told us we could gather at Carlingford Court,’ he said.
‘Shops are closed with the exception of some food sellers, some handing out food.’
One resident, who wished to not be named, told Daily Mail Australia the nearby shopping centre had been left overwhelmed with residents who had nowhere to go.
