Jennifer Love Hewitt Addresses Sarah Michelle Gellar Feud

Jennifer Love Hewitt has addressed years-old rumours of a feud with her I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

ICYMI, Hewitt and Gellar have been at the centre of beef rumours as far back as the late 90s, when they starred opposite each other in the slasher horror film.

At the time, there was speculation that Hewitt had demanded Gellar’s character be written out of future instalments of the franchise, which ultimately came to fruition — with or without Hewitt’s input — when Helen Shivers was killed off in the first film.

That rumour has plagued the pair ever since, but Hewitt this week clarified that not only is there no beef, but that she has “no idea” where all of the chatter even came from.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” the actress told Vulture in a profile published on Friday.

Hewitt went on to say that the feud rumours were the result of a tabloid culture that wants to pit women against each other, saying “people don’t want the narrative to be easy”.

“Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”.

While Hewitt put to bed any talk of animosity, that doesn’t mean she and Gellar — who is now married to I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Freddie Prinze Jr. — are all buddy-buddy.

“I haven’t seen Sarah. Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out,” Hewitt said.

“That’s why it’s so funny to me. People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’”

Officially swatting off any additional potential rumours, Hewitt confirmed: “On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from.”

Hewitt’s comments come after Gellar likewise addressed the speculation after attending the premiere of the 2025 I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot earlier this week.

When fans hounded her Instagram post of pics from the premiere, Gellar took to the comments section to ward off all the nonsense and explain why Hewitt wasn’t pictured with her.

“For everyone asking — I never got to see [Hewitt] who is fantastic in the movie,” the Scooby-Doo star wrote.

“I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.

“If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are.”

As for the rumour that kickstarted it all, well, Hewitt said last year during a podcast interview that she never demanded for Gellar to be written out of their horror franchise.

“I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me,” she explained on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast.

“All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything.”

So there you have it folks, as titillating as a rumoured feud might be, lets save our popcorn for the real beefs, like Trump and Elon Musk
