We’re just days out from the arrival of the 2025 instalment of The Block, and in anticipation of season 21, host Scott Cam has lifted the lid on what to expect from this year’s cast.
Cam, who has fronted the reno series since its third season back in 2010, spoke of the upcoming premiere, arriving on Sunday, during a recent launch event in Daylesford, the town in Victoria where season 21 was filmed.
Per Yahoo, Cam described this season’s batch of contestants as “fantastic”, adding that they are among the best he’s seen throughout his time on the show.
“They’ve been, in my view, the best teams that we’ve ever had on The Block,” Cam said.
For all those fretting that the comments might result in a snoozefest (you’ve been watching too much MAFS), rest assured that Cam’s compliments came with a slight caveat.
“That’s not to say that they’re not a punish at times,” Cam added of the castmates.
“It’s not to say that they don’t argue and fight with each other and other teams. It’s not to say that they don’t cause drama and they’re annoying.”
Tell us how you really feel, Scotty!
He summed up his thoughts by saying the teams are “as good as it gets” and “could be a lot worse, let me tell you”.

As for the best yet sometimes annoying contestants Cam speaks of, it was revealed earlier this month that season 21 will consist of five teams, each wielding their hammers and fluffing their pillows on adjoining lots in the rural Victorian town.
There’s Sonny and Alicia from the Gold Coast and Robby and Mat from South Australia, as well as Han and Can, Britt and Taz, and Victoria’s very-own Em and Ben.
While it remains to be seen how, exactly, the castmates will be a “punish”, The Block is no stranger to controversies and drama.
Last year, the rumour mill was positively aflutter with speculation that two castmates were having an affair (in between paint swatching, I suppose), as well as much chatter about whether a team had cheated by forging Foreman Dan’s signature.
Even this year, despite not yet premiering, we’ve had offscreen season 21 tea in the form of Adrian Portelli and his rumoured rift with Cam as he prepares to host a rival reno show.
With all that, expect The Block to deliver on all drama when it hits Aussie screens on July 27.
Oh, there’ll probably be some renovations, too.
