Nine-year-old boy suffers severe brain injuries after he was slammed to ground in savage elementary school brawl

A Texas boy was left hospitalized and with severe brain injuries after another student slammed him into the ground over an argument about a basketball.

Jenna Heniser’s son, Kason, nine, was arguing with another boy around 1:30pm on Friday inside Samuel Walker Houston Elementary School’s gymnasium when he was injured.

The argument started after the other student was holding a basketball that others wanted to use.

The other students went back and forth with the aggressor, when he tried to ‘sling’ Kason a few times and kicked at him, his mother said.

‘I guess he finally got him,’ she told Click 2 Houston. ‘I’m still mind-boggled that it even happened. I can’t even think straight, honestly.

‘When we send our kids to school, I mean, we expect them to be safe, to be protected.’

Teachers were allegedly in the gym at the time of the attack.

Kason was rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.

A CT scan showed he had severe swelling on his brain. He was sedated, and at one point, had to be lifted from it to ‘see if he would respond to verbal commands.’

‘Thank god he did,’ she told the outlet.

‘Seeing my nine-year-old sedated and on a ventilator was traumatic,’ the mother wrote on Facebook. ‘I don’t wish this on anyone. No child deserves this at all.

‘He’s a fighter by all means.’

Doctors ran an MRI on Monday on the child’s leg and spine. He is able to walk, but is mother said the young student still feels dizzy.

The fourth grader is also afraid to return to school, Heniser said.

Heniser also filed a report with Child Protective Services and is asking the school to see the surveillance footage.

‘Please know that the situation was handled quickly and with the safety of all students in mind. Staff followed established safety protocols to ensure that normal school operations could continue without disruption,’ a letter emailed to parents and obtained by Daily Mail said.

‘The safety, health, and well-being of our students remain our highest priority.’

In a statement to Daily Mail, the school district said: ‘Due to student privacy laws, we will not release any further details about this particular incident.’

Daily Mail has reached out to Heniser for comment.
