Channing Tatum Got Injured During ‘Roofman’ Nude Scene: “I Still Have A Scar”

Channing Tatum found himself in a compromising position while making Roofmanwhich resulted in a real-life injury.

The actor revealed that he still has a scar after he got hurt in one “butt naked” scene while portraying fugitive Jeffrey Manchester, a father and U.S. Army Reserve officer who broke out of jail and hid in the walls of a Toys ‘R’ Us.

“I mean, it wasn’t great, because I’m butt naked, so I can’t wear pads or anything,” Tatum told Entertainment Weekly. “So I was wet and soapy, and it was just a messy scene.”

In the scene, Toys ‘R’ Us manager Mitch (Peter Dinklage) discovers Jeffrey while he’s showering, sending the fully nude squatter fleeing through the store and tripping over several things before scaling a wall to make his escape.

“I did actually get hurt jumping up onto the bike rack, and then I had to do the funny jump into my little hideaway,” he recalled. “I didn’t make it over the edge of the hideaway, and I gashed my [leg]. I still have a scar from it on my leg, and we just had to glue it together and keep going.”

Tatum added, “I think the most memorable thing, though, is looking at Derek [Cianfrance, the director] and going, ‘How are we shooting this? Because at any angle, you’re going to see stuff.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re going to figure it out.’ And I’m like, ‘What’s figure it out mean? Because you’re right behind me as I’m jumping up on the thing. You’re going to be right down the barrel.’”

Cianfrance previously confirmed Tatum was “full monty” in the scene, which was the actor’s first time meeting co-star Peter Dinklage.

Tatum recalled the introduction to EW“I’m like, ‘Hello, Mr. Dinklage. I’m Channing. We’re going to have an experience today.’ But he’s such a man. He is a legend. He’s an absolute legend. And he’s so good in this movie, by the way. … Yeah, he just made things easy and funny and fun.”

Roofmanwhich is now in theaters after it premiered at TIFF, also stars Kirsten Dunst as Leigh, a Toys ‘R’ Us employee who develops a romance with the fugitive.
