Egypt reviews its national efforts in combating cybercrime

The Egyptian delegation in Vietnam (through the representative of the Ministry of Justice) participated in two high-level discussion sessions on electronic evidence and combating cybercrime.

A statement from the Ministry of Communications stated that the first session focused on “exchanging experiences and best practices in collecting electronic evidence in investigations of cryptocurrencies and money laundering.” With the participation of the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation of the State of Ghana, the Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the Southeast Asia and Pacific region, and the Director of the Law Enforcement Department of Binance, the international company, the largest cryptocurrency trading platform.

He added that the second session focused on capacity building and technical assistance in the field of combating cybercrime, with the participation of Deputy ministers and ambassadors from Russia, China, Vietnam, Cuba, and South Africa.

During the two sessions, the representative of the Egyptian delegation reviewed the most prominent challenges and practical problems in the two topics of discussion, and highlighted Egyptian efforts and best practices to confront and overcome those challenges, such as establishing specialized courts, prosecutions, and law enforcement agencies, and implementing joint national and regional training programs for all parties to the system. Criminal justice in this field, and the establishment of the Egyptian Committee for Preventing and Combating Cybercrime, which includes all relevant national bodies and plays a vital role at the strategic and executive levels in this field.

It is worth noting that Dr. Amr Talaat participated at the head of a high-level Egyptian delegation in the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, which was hosted by Vietnam, where a representative of Egypt signed the The agreement. Egypt also organized a high-level dialogue session on the state’s comprehensive approach to achieving international cyber justice and building regional capacities in the fields of digital evidence and cyber investigations. Egypt also participated in the exhibition held on the sidelines of the event to review national capabilities and capabilities in the field of combating cybercrime.

The Egyptian delegation includes representatives of a number of ministries and stakeholders, including ministries Justice, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Communications and Information Technology, in addition to representatives of the Public Prosecution, the Administrative Control Authority, and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
