Disney ‘planning another woke live-action remake’ of animated classic despite Snow White flop

Disney is reportedly planning another live-action remake of an animated classic despite Snow White bombing… and it’s expected to have some major changes.
Disney released its controversial new version of Snow White back in March, and it was branded as one of the company’s worst-performing movies in recent years.
After being mired in controversy due to star Rachel Zegler’s eyebrow-raising comments and facing immense backlash over the ‘woke’ changes it made, the movie ended up earning dismal numbers at the box office and was widely panned by critics.
Despite the blow, it has now been reported that Disney has its eye set on remaking another old cartoon: Sleeping Beauty.
Entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman wrote on his site that the movie, called Aurora, will be a ‘reimagining’ of the 1959 classic.
He also claimed that it will be set in Mexico instead of France, where the original took place.
Sleeping Beauty followed princess Aurora, who had been cursed by an evil fairy named Maleficent, forcing her to fall into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true love’s kiss.
Despite coming out more than six decades ago, it’s still beloved by millions of Disney fans across the globe.

Disney has not publicly commented on the rumors, and the company did not respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment.
Fans were divided over the reports, and took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts.
Some people slammed Disney for not coming up with new content, and instead, remaking many of their old films.
‘Or… Disney, hear me out… create a new Disney princess based on Mexican folklore,’ wrote one user.
‘Why not come up with a new Disney princess that’s from Mexico?’ asked another.
‘They already made an original Latina princess from one of their shows, I feel like a repackaged princess wouldn’t be original and is just a half a**ed idea.’
‘Why can’t Disney just come up with a new princess from Mexico? Or like, anything new that isn’t a… remake,’ scathed someone else.
‘Another woke movie,’ read a fourth post as a fifth said: ‘I wish Disney would STOP with the remakes of stuff and gives us something new, it’s getting tired.’

‘Why not make a brand new princess from Mexico with her own super cool backstory and personality and movie? What’s the point in repurposing old characters? What happened to ‘imagine more’?’ questioned a different user.
‘That is ridiculous. Sleeping Beauty is a European fairytale! It needs to take place in Europe,’ penned another outraged fan.
‘There are plenty of legends from Mexico that you could literally draw from and make an original story! And Native American stuff too! Y’all are uncreative [and] morally bankrupt.’
‘Disney is reportedly developing another movie that is unoriginal, uninspired, and based on their own existing library,’ someone else sarcastically quipped.
Others, however, praised the idea.
‘I think this sounds fun. So long as they actually integrate Mexican culture into the film instead of just making the characters Mexican,’ wrote one person.
‘OK now I’m liking this! Imagine if all the princesses got stories set around the world and cultures instead of just [being] ‘vaguely British accent’ princesses,’ agreed another.
‘The Little Mermaid leaning into the Caribbean culture was probably my favorite part.’

‘Now this I am intrigued by,’ read a third positive tweet.
‘Latina Sleeping Beauty you say… I see the vision,’ said a fourth.
In 2014, Disney released the live-action film Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, which told the same story as Sleeping Beauty but from the villain’s perspective, and it was a massive success. A sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, came out in 2019.
After Snow White bombed, rumors erupted that Disney was pausing its live-action remake of Tangled.
However, after the success of the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which came out in May and made a whopping $1 billion at the box office, Deadline reported that Tangled was back in development, with Scarlet Johansson being eyed to play Mother Gothel.
Disney’s live-action remake of Moana is also set to come out in July 2026, starring Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia.
