Ashour announces the launch of a new national platform for advanced computing for researchers

Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, made an inspection tour of the Cairo International Technology Exhibition and Conference (Cairo ICT), which was opened by Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, with the participation of a number of ministries and government officials, and leaders of international and local companies in the communications and information technology sector.

 

The Minister was accompanied, during the tour, by the great media personality Osama Kamal, and Dr. Sherif Kishk, Assistant Minister for Governance. Smart, Dr. Abeer Al-Shater, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs.

 

During the tour, Dr. Ayman Ashour made an extensive visit to a number of pavilions specialized in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, advanced computing, educational technology, and digital services. The Minister was keen to stop in various pavilions of the exhibition and listen to the presentations of young people, innovators, and representatives of international and local companies.

 

The Minister praised the excellence of the exhibition, offering his thanks in advance. Journalist Osama Kamal was invited to organize this distinguished event. He also praised the amount of effort exerted by the participating youth and the innovative ideas and solutions they presented, stressing that the projects he saw demonstrated their ability to compete internationally in advanced technological fields.

 

 The Minister conducted dialogues with the exhibitors, and asked detailed questions about the digital applications they offer, technologies based on artificial intelligence, and business models based on innovation, and discussed how to benefit from them, stressing The Ministry is keen to follow up on these ideas and provide an environment conducive to their development within universities.

 

Dr. Ayman Ashour stressed the Ministry’s readiness to cooperate with the companies participating in the exhibition, especially those that provide solutions that can be applied within universities or linked to scientific research and industry. During his conversation with the exhibitors, he stressed the importance of building partnerships between universities and companies participating in Cairo ICT, stressing that the Ministry aims to strengthen the link between university innovation and the industrial and technological sector, allowing By transforming student research and projects into practical, applicable solutions.

 

During his tour, the Minister explained that higher education is witnessing a radical transformation in light of the expanding uses of artificial intelligence, and that the Ministry is dealing with these transformations from a comprehensive perspective that aims to develop digital infrastructure, develop human capabilities, modernize curricula, enhance scientific research, and establish ethical frameworks and responsible governance to ensure the safe and effective use of these technologies.

 

He explained Dr. Ayman Ashour said that Egyptian universities have strong capabilities that enable them to serve the artificial intelligence sector, noting that there are more than 85 specialized academic programs distributed among 100 colleges, and 50,000 students enrolled this year in colleges of computing and artificial intelligence. He pointed out that Egypt has advanced in the government readiness index for artificial intelligence with 55 global centers, and achieved 56th place out of 172 countries, noting that the Ministry of Higher Education has obtained a certificate. “Certified Innovative Government Organization” With a five-star rating as the first institution of higher education and scientific research in the world to obtain this classification.

 

During his tour, the Minister announced the launch of a new national initiative in cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Information Systems Department of the Armed Forces, which provides secure, high-speed computer devices equipped with advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) for faculty members and researchers.

Dr. Ayman Ashour explained that this system represents a qualitative leap in the research infrastructure, with the great capabilities it provides in processing big data and running artificial intelligence models and advanced simulation, especially for multidisciplinary research in the fields of health, energy, smart agriculture, cybersecurity, industry, and services.

 

The Minister stressed the continuation of work to raise the readiness of Egyptian universities, to keep pace with The rapid development in artificial intelligence applications, supporting the building of a knowledge-based economy that achieves the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030, establishing research centers of excellence within universities in technological fields, supporting specialized laboratories and linking them to industry, cooperating with international institutions to establish joint centers of excellence within Egypt, as well as training faculty members to use artificial intelligence tools, and continuing to implement the “Be Prepared” initiative.
