Two of Rihanna’s signature perfumes recalled over fears they contain chemicals that could ‘harm women and unborn babies’

Two of Rihanna’s signature fragrances have been pulled from shelves over fears they contain toxic chemicals which can affect women’s fertility.
The budget retailer Savers issued a warning after certain batches of Kiss and Riri by Rihanna were found to contain chemicals banned for cosmetic use in the UK and EU.
The chemicals, known as Lyral and Lilial, were banned in December 2022 due to concerns they could affect fertility and foetal development.
Customers are being urged to return perfumes with batch codes 0608940572252 for Kiss by Rihanna and 0608940560389 for Riri by Rihanna for a full refund.
A spokesperson said: ‘Savers have issued a recall of the above fragrance lines as some have been found to contain ingredients – hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde and butylphenyl methylpropional, that are prohibited from sale in the UK.
‘Customers should return the above products purchased at a Savers store to the place of purchase, where they will be issued a full refund.
‘Only the versions listed above are affected by this recall. If you are unsure if you have one of the above products, please speak to our store teams who will be happy to help you.’
The retailer has apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Despite the ban, experts believe many chemicals known as endocrine-disrupters – compounds that have been shown to interfere with the body’s natural hormones – which have a similar effect are still being used.
Studies have linked these chemicals to diabetes, obesity, developmental problems. Experts say the could even be behind the rise of incurable reproductive disorders.
They are particularly concerned about the impact of fragrances on the thyroid, the small butterflies-shaped organ in the neck that regulates the body’s hormonal system.
Last year, two other fragrances – Hello by Lionel Richie and Hot by United Colors of Benetton – were recalled after it was revealed they contained chemicals that were restricted due to worries they could affect fertility.
