Today show star Sarah Abo, 40, breaks down in tears live on-air as she announces she is pregnant with her first child with husband Cyrus Moran

Sarah Abo is expecting her first child with her husband, Cyrus Moran.

The Today show star, 40, broke down in tears as she announced her happy pregnancy news on the breakfast show on Wednesday morning.

‘I’m going to try and fail to maintain my composure. But yes, Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,’ she said.

‘I know, it’s obviously very happy news and everything … It hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which a lot of people I know have gone through and will go through.

‘It’s not as easy as you sometimes think that pregnancy will be.

‘So, it has been a bit of a bumpy ride, but here we are. And yes, it’s getting harder to hide. As much as I’d like to bury my head in the sand and not address it, I think, yeah, we’re almost halfway now.’

Sarah’s co-host, Karl Stefanovic also became teary as he shared his best wishes for the expectant couple.

‘I work next to you every day, and I know you had some dramas, right? And last year you had so much crap in the newspapers, and it was around that time, and you didn’t tell anyone,’ he said.

‘You came to work, and your strength and courage during that was unbelievable. You fought that on your own with only a couple of people knowing.’

Shortly after the segment aired, Sarah took to Instagram to reflect on her happy news, uploading a photo of herself posing with her bump on display in a sheer long-sleeved top.

‘Well, I can’t keep trying to hide under a rock..! Yes, there is a baby in there. It’s our happy news after a bit of a bumpy ride,’ she wrote.

Despite the excitement, she admitted the experience has been far from straightforward and said she remains cautious as the pregnancy progresses.

‘But I am still pretty terrified! I know this is an experience many have gone through, are going through, and will go through. And one that no one ever wants to go through,’ she continued.

Reflecting on the realities of fertility struggles, she said many people take pregnancy for granted without understanding the emotional and physical toll some face.

'I'm going to try and fail to maintain my composure. But yes, Cyrus and I are expecting a little baby,' she said

‘We take so much for granted, and I think when it comes to pregnancy and fertility, we’re almost conditioned to. Instead, for some of us, it’s about dodging glances, dodging questions, submitting to appointment after appointment, test after test, jab after jab.’

She also called for greater awareness and compassion around the topic, saying she hopes speaking openly about her experience might help reduce the stigma.

‘I wish there was a bit more awareness, education and less stigma, to maybe make it a little bit easier. Hopefully talking about it more, helps.’

Offering support to others facing similar challenges, she said the journey can feel isolating but reminded people they are not alone.

‘For anyone out there going through this – I’m sending so much love,’ she wrote. ‘I don’t think I’ll fully believe it until full term – but I am trying to enjoy this period as much as I can. And it is beautiful, it just takes a re-wiring of the brain, when you’re predisposed to expect the worst.’

‘I know many have had a much more difficult time of it than us, this is such a varied experience and everyone will feel it differently. There’s nothing that necessarily makes this road easier, and while it feels so lonely when you’re in it, please know that you’re absolutely not alone. Xx.’

Sarah captioned the photo with some heartfelt words: ‘Happy birthday. Beautiful, blurry, you. #fortyandfine.’

She told Stellar magazine that her husband likes to keep a low profile.

‘It’s not as though he’s hiding. It’s just that he’s not in the media,’ Sarah told the Something To Talk About podcast.

Sarah said people are always surprised that her husband of 13 years does not want to pursue a media career.

‘For some reason that seems to be hard to understand for some people. It’s like, ‘No, mate. I’ve got a weird job and a weird life… he doesn’t,” she said.

The couple’s commitment to privacy has led to some awkward situations, such as when he declined to appear on a special edition of the Today show to mark her 40th birthday.

‘Today wanted to get my family in Melbourne up via video link, but they were like, ‘Oh, Cyrus, can you just come on set and just wish Sarah a happy birthday,” she said.

‘And he was like, ‘Absolutely not.’ He said to me, ‘Are you gonna kill me if I don’t come on the telly? I’m really sorry. Do you mind if I don’t do it?’

Sarah revealed that one of the key strengths of their relationship was their mutual support – and she told her husband she would be happy with whatever decision he made.

‘He said, ‘I will if you really want me to, but I really don’t want to.’ I was like, ‘I don’t want you to do anything you’re not comfortable with.’ It’s just not who he is,’ she said.
