Woke progressive streamer Hasan Piker wears $1,380 Cartier glasses, $690 shirt while staying in 5-star hotel during humanitarian trip to Cuba where average annual salary is $200

Progressive streamer Hasan Piker has been slammed for wearing designer glasses and expensive clothing during a humanitarian trip in Cuba, as locals struggle to get by.

The socialist traveled to the Caribbean country with other delegates as part of a trip run by the Nuestra América Convoy, which shipped activists from Europe and North America to help hand out humanitarian aid to Cubans.

The group is protesting America’s oil blockade, which has left residents struggling without enough food and energy since Trump cut off its oil supply in January, sparking protests and unrest across the country as its economy continues to burn.

Piker, 37, and others, including Isra Hirsi, the 23-year-old daughter of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, flocked to Havana over the weekend, and reportedly stayed in luxury five-star hotels while locals make just $150 to $200 annually on average.

One of the hotels they are believed to have stayed at is the Gran Hotel Bristol Meliá Collection, an elegant getaway that has a rooftop pool and offers rooms for $130 to $520 a night.

Turkish-American political activist Piker was pictured wearing a $690 red button-down from Glass Cypress, a luxury menswear company. He also donned $1,380 Cartier glasses in several images and videos taken during the trip.

Piker, who has more than 2.9 million followers on Twitch and 1.75 million YouTube subscribers, has since sparked a number of negative reactions, especially over his luxury lifestyle.

‘Nice Cartier glasses. It would take (a) Cuban nine years of labor to be able to afford one of those,’ an Instagram user commented on Piker’s video where he explained his ‘commitment to the Cubans.’

Another wrote: ‘I think all of you should stay and live there 🙂 really help them but outside of your five-star hotels.

‘Live as the people do, eat (or don’t) as the people do. Make money in pesos when things are sold for dollars in the stores. Good luck with that we won’t miss you.

‘This isn’t awareness, it’s exploitation,’ a commenter wrote.

‘You went to Cuba, used people’s suffering for content, and romanticized a dictatorship from your privilege. You get views and leave, Cubans stay, silenced and struggling. That’s not activism, that’s hypocrisy.’

Someone else chimed in: ‘Hasan, it’s incredibly convenient to defend communism while living a lifestyle that people in Cuba could never even dream of.’

Piker was also seen wearing the same aviator-style frames in a selfie of himself with Jodie Evans, who runs Code Pink, an anti-war feminist organization.

Evans donned a pink and white keffiyeh around her neck while Piker held up a peace sign in an image posted to X on Saturday.

Other images showed travelers meeting with President Miguel Díaz‑Canel at the Palacio de Convenciones in Havana and some delegates riding along in air-conditioned buses.

Meanwhile, an island-wide blackout hit Cuba last week that’s impacted more than 11 million people in the communist country.

President Donald Trump threatened tariffs on any nation that chooses to sell Cuba oil, leaving the nation having to find a way to survive without a stable energy supply.

His decision came after the US captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in January.

Since then, the island has not received oil for three months, according to Cuba’s president.

On Tuesday, Code Pink and Piker both shared an image of the ‘Granma 2.0 flotilla’ arriving in Cuba with 30 tons of humanitarian aid.

Several people were seen onboard the boat as they held up Cuban flags and appeared to cheer.

Despite reports going around about the around 170 delegates living in far nicer conditions than Cuban locals, Piker and Evans have claimed that was not the case.

During one of his recent live streams, the activist defended their decision to stay in hotels on the island.

‘The American government makes it illegal for Americans to stay wherever they want when they’re in Cuba,’ he said, referring to the Cuba Prohibited Accommodations List.

The list details a number of places throughout Cuba where US citizens are prohibited from lodging.

Medea Benjamin, a co-founder of Code Pink, also touched on that in a recent video posted on X.

‘I want to debunk some of the myths about our delegation,’ she said while walking the halls of the US Capital building in Washington, D.C.

‘People said: “Oh, you stayed in luxury hotels”.

‘We stayed in one of the only four hotels that the US government allows us to stay in, and they are all fancy hotels,’ Benjamin said.

Piker also spoke about people criticizing him over the expensive shirt he wore, stating: ‘They don’t realize, one, people send me f***ing free s*** all the time, two, people gift me s*** all the time as well.’

The streamer, who donned a blue Cuba baseball hat in the clip, then raged on some more, adding: ‘Not that it even matters. Even if I go out and purchase it on my own – who gives a f*** what I’m wearing, you’re an idiot!

‘Like what? You think the price of this button-up shirt is the reason why the Cuban’s are f***ing suffering? What argument is this?’

The Daily Mail has reached out to Piker for comment.
