A new achievement for agriculture… adoption "Animal health research" As an international body granting laboratory proficiency tests

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation revealed a new qualitative achievement that enhances Egypt’s international standing in the field of scientific research and veterinary control, as the Animal Health Research Institute, affiliated with the Agricultural Research Center, succeeded in obtaining the international accreditation certificate (ISO/IEC 17043) from the National Accreditation Council (EGAC), thus becoming an internationally accredited body for organizing and granting laboratory proficiency tests.
This accreditation came after a careful evaluation. And comprehensively conducted by the “IJAC” team. Over the course of two days, it included verifying the institute’s competence in managing and implementing 11 vital laboratory tests, the most important of which are tests for cross-border epidemic diseases such as bird flu and Newcastle disease, in addition to accurate tests to ensure the safety and quality of foods of animal origin.
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stressed that this international accreditation comes as a result of the state’s continuous efforts to develop the agricultural sector. And animals as one of the pillars of national food security. He pointed out that the political leadership attaches great importance to the localization of international standards within Egyptian research institutions, and explained that this contributes to making Egypt a regional and international center for expertise in the field of animal health and food safety. Egyptian livestock are subject to the highest standards of scientific oversight and auditing. He stressed the Ministry’s continued support of all research institutes and laboratories and the provision of technical and human capabilities that ensure the sustainability of this excellence, which contributes to opening new export markets and supporting the national economy by enhancing confidence in Egyptian test certificates internationally.
Dr. Samah Eid, Director of the Animal Health Research Institute, confirmed that this success is the result of direct support from Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Dr. Adel Abdel Azim, head of the Agricultural Research Center, within the framework of the state’s plan to raise the efficiency of national reference laboratories and apply the highest international quality standards, pointing out that obtaining “ISO 17043” It goes beyond being a technical achievement to achieve tangible strategic and economic goals.
She explained that this contributes to saving the exorbitant expenses that the Institute incurred annually to conduct proficiency tests for its sub-laboratories in external parties, as well as enhancing the confidence of international and regional organizations in the Institute as a reliable scientific reference for animal health and food safety, in addition to opening new investment horizons by providing proficiency testing services to government and private laboratories inside and outside the sector. Agriculture.
The director of the institute thanked the institute’s quality team, praising their dedication to applying the technical requirements of the international standard for the first time in the institute’s history, which confirms the competence of the Egyptian cadres and their ability to compete globally as a basic pillar for protecting livestock and food security for citizens.
