"Agriculture": Exporting more than a million strawberry seedlings last October

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that, during the month of last October, more than one million strawberry seedlings, as well as 122,000 various fruit seedlings, were exported to a number of countries around the world.

 

A statement by the Ministry of Agriculture on Wednesday stated that this comes according to an official report, issued by the Central Administration of Horticulture, affiliated with the Agricultural Extension Sector, about the most prominent efforts and activities of the administration during the month of last October.

The head of the Central Administration said, For Orchards by Dr. Mona Abdel Khaleq that these efforts come in implementation of the directives of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, to intensify efforts to support agricultural production, enhance exports, and develop agricultural extension, under the supervision and follow-up of the Head of the Agricultural Extension Sector, Dr. Alaa Azouz.

She added: During October, 15 licenses were issued to establish new fruit gardens and 3 licenses to replace and renew existing gardens with the aim of increasing the cultivated areas and improving the quality of production… noting that 20 were implemented. A committee for exporting strawberry seedlings and 8 committees for private use to follow up on areas and planting operations, and 15 committees for inspection at ports were also participated to ensure the quality of exported and imported seedlings.

The head of the Central Horticulture Administration explained that the number of strawberry seedlings whose export operations were supervised during the same month amounted to 1,076,275 seedlings that were exported to the countries: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Malaysia, Oman, Kuwait, and Ethiopia, in addition to To 122,915 fruit seedlings, through 21 committees, and they were exported to the countries: Mauritania, Bahrain, Qatar, the Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, which reflects the administration’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-quality seedlings and expansion in foreign markets.

She continued: During October, 24 follow-up committees were also implemented to combat the disease of pinkness and mottling in banana nurseries and farms, which included visits to 12 governorates: Minya, Sharqia, Menoufia, Ismailia, Beheira, Gharbia, Beni Suef, Luxor, Sohag, Aswan, Qalyubia, and Dakahlia to provide scientific and technical recommendations, ensure the health and quality of the banana crop, and protect production from diseases.

She indicated that 3 training courses, 14 extension seminars, two practical field days, and one workshop were also held in cooperation with the Horticultural Research Institute to cover 10 governorates and 3 research stations, with the aim of enhancing technical and extension awareness among farmers and disseminating agricultural practices. She confirmed that these field visits included all types of crops, including fruits, vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, palms, greenhouses, nurseries and field crops. Technical and guidance support was provided to farmers, while following up on the recommendations of the Central Climate Laboratory to confront unusual weather conditions and directing technical recommendations to ensure the continuity of production and protect it from environmental risks, in addition to following up on the activation of ministerial decisions regulating agricultural work in the targeted governorates, which are: Gharbia, Alexandria, Noubaria, Suez, Ismailia, Dakahlia, Sharqia, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Menoufia, Beni Suef, Qalyubia, Luxor, Minya, and Sohag.

She said that 4,213 greenhouse licenses were also issued to produce vegetable crops, 72 greenhouses to produce vegetable seedlings, and 6 greenhouses to produce sugarcane seedlings, which contributes to supporting local production, expanding the export base, and achieving the highest levels of quality. And efficiency in agricultural production.
