Aldi’s major announcement that could change the way you shop for groceries forever: ‘Game changer’

Aussies can now get groceries from Aldi delivered straight to their doors, as the supermarket chain finally rolls out its highly anticipated service after a 25-year wait.
The budget retailer is offering on-demand grocery delivery from most of its stores nationwide, thanks to its partnership with DoorDash.
From Tuesday, September 16, residents in NSW can now order from more than 1,800 products – including award-winning items, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy, bread and household essentials.
The major announcement comes after a successful trial in Canberra in July.
On the back of its success, the popular shopping delivery option has been quietly introduced in other locations around Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland and Victoria. As of this week, NSW is now the final state to be offered the home delivery service.
The convenient online shopping feature means no more juggling groceries to keep up with Aldi’s notoriously fast in-store cashiers.
The partnership is a first for the budget supermarket chain, which had up until now resisted following other major supermarkets into grocery home delivery services.
Aldi Australia’s Group Director Simon Padovani-Ginies said offering online shopping delivery was a true ‘game changer’ that transformed the ‘different ways people can shop’.
Aldi fans Australia-wide now have the chance to shop the store’s exclusive range of products at the touch of a button
‘Through DoorDash, shoppers can get their hands on ALDI’s exclusive range of top-notch products at everyday low prices at the click of a button,’ Mr Padovani-Ginies said.
‘We’ve responded to what our customers have been asking for. Whether it’s midweek essentials, forgotten ingredients, weekend top-ups, or their full haul, most customers can now order their ALDI favourites online and have their haul delivered.’
To order groceries, all shoppers need to do is download the DoorDash app or visit the website and search for ‘Aldi’ on the platform.
Customers will then be able to browse through the items available at their local store and add them to their online cart to purchase.
Shoppers can decide if they would like their ‘on-demand’ shopping order to be delivered as soon as possible, or, at a later time window that suits them.
The items will then be delivered directly to the customer’s door.
The initial trial months of the Aldi and DoorDash service turned up interesting insights about the type of items that are most frequently ordered online.
The budget retailer noted that everyday essentials were among the most popular purchases, with staples from categories like fresh produce, milk and eggs featuring in a quarter of all online orders.

Aldi Australia first rolled our their DoorDash grocery delivery service in July 2025 in Canberra and have been quietly rolling it out in other states around the country
As for the most popular time to place an online delivery order – a third were placed on weekends.
During the Canberra-only trial phase, the most popular snack was the bargain Belmont Biscuit Co. Chocolate Flavoured Crème Wafers 125g packs, which sell in store for under a dollar.
As the trial phase of the grocery delivery service spread to other states, there was a shift in snack preference to savoury goodies.
Shoppers in WA were fans of the Sprinters Crinkle Cut Multipack 20 Pack chippies as their preferred snack.
But in Queensland, SA and Victoria, the savoury bite of choice to order online was the Sprinters Corn Chips Cheese Extreme 200g packs.
Mr Padovani-Ginies said these online shopping preferences revealed what customers were looking for while ordering from the comfort of home.
‘From emergency orders of nappies and wipes, snacking essentials to the full weekly shop, customers have been raving about the new level of convenience the service unlocks for them,’ he said.
‘It is clear they are taking advantage of our partnership with DoorDash to meet their ALDI needs in a new and on-demand way, and it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate the service rolling out nationally from today.’

Outside of Australia, Aldi has already partnered with DoorDash in the US, offering the grocery home delivery to American shoppers.
Aldi has been operating in Australia for almost 25 years after opening its first two Sydney stores in 2001.
Unlike its major supermarket competitors Coles and Woolworths, the smaller German-based supermarket chain has until now trodden tentatively into online shopping in Australia.
