Nearly 1million exercise bikes have been urgently recalled over risks of serious falls.
Exercise giant Peloton announced Thursday that is has voluntarily recalled 878,800 seat posts for its Bike+ exercise bikes because they were found to potentially break off during use, causing users to fall.
The seat posts are long metal bars that hold the cushioned bike seats in place during a workout.
The recall includes 833,000 bikes sold in the US and 44,800 sold in Canada.
The recall was initiated after Peloton, an exercise platform with more than 6million users, received three reports of the seat post breaking off and detaching from the bikes during use. Two people suffered injuries from falling.
Affected products include Peloton Original Series Bike+ units with the model number PL02 and serial numbers beginning with the letter ‘T.’ The serial number is located inside or behind the bike’s front fork, which holds the front wheel in place, or behind the flywheel.
The bikes were manufactured between December 2019 and July 2022 and were sold at Peloton’s website, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Amazon and eBay in store and online from January 2020 through April 2025.
Peloton has urged consumers with an affected Bike+ model to immediately stop using it and contact the company for a free repair. Consumers can also get a free self-installed seat post as a replacement.

Peloton’s website also has further information on determining if a bike is part of the recall, along with new seat installation instructions.
A Peloton spokesperson said in a statement: ‘The integrity of our products and our Members’ well-being are our top priorities.’
It comes after the New York-based exercise company issued a high-profile recall for 2million of its original bike models in 2023.
There were 35 reports of users falling off the bikes due to similar faulty seat issues and 13 injuries, including a fractured wrist, lacerations and bruises.
Stocks at the time dipped nine percent and then more than 20 percent the month after that 2023 announcement.
Peloton also lost about 29,000 subscribers after that recall, and between 15,000 and 20,000 users paused their subscriptions while they waited for replacement seats.
And in 2021, a six-year-old child was pulled under one of Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill and killed.
Peloton has had five recalls since it was founded in 2012.
The company’s original Bike+ models cost $2,495, and the all-access subscription costs $50 per month.
