Anthony Albanese to FINALLY meet Donald Trump in Washington next month, White House confirms

Anthony Albanese has finally locked in a sit-down meeting with US President Donald Trump.

The White House has confirmed that the Prime Minister will meet with Trump in Washington DC on October 20.

Albanese will travel to the US for the second time within a month for stand-alone trip.

Both leaders are currently in New York for the UN General Assembly, where Albanese again failed to lock in his first face-to-face meeting with Trump.

This is despite the President holding a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of Ukraine, Argentina and the European Union on the sidelines of the US conference before joining a major multilateral session.

Albanese is hoping for at least a handshake and informal chat with Trump at a reception for world leaders on Wednesday night, to be hosted by the President and First Lady Melania Trump.

‘I’ll be talking with him there,’ Albanese told Channel Seven this week.

The latest snub comes after Trump lashed out at Australia’s decision to recognise Palestinian statehood.

Albanese and Trump were due to sit down on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada in June, before the President cut his trip short and flew back to Washington to manage the Middle East war.

Despite not meeting in person, the pair have had four phone calls since Trump was re-elected as President in January.

Early in September, Albanese described their latest call as ‘warm and constructive’.

Trump was also asked about the call and said of Albanese: ‘He’s a good man’.

More to come.
