Apple TV+ Is Bringing Back The Holiday As A Limited Series & Christmas Has Come Early FR

Another day, another remake and this time we are getting another run at the magical Christmas movie (and my personal fave) The Holiday.

So, here we go again. Just when you thought your December viewing habits were safe from the clutches of reboot fever, Apple TV+ has decided to unwrap a brand new limited series based on the 2006 romantic-comedy The Holiday.

If you spent any part of the early 2000s longing to swap your rainy suburb for a snow-kissed English cottage (and maybe a heartthrob neighbour), you are absolutely not alone — this one’s for the daydreamers.

Now, don’t go dusting off your passport just yet. Here’s what we know: much like in the original feel-good flick, the series will be slinging us another love-struck duo of one American and one Brit, each fleeing their relationship woes for the holidays, according to Deadline. House swap? Tick. Culture shock? Tick. Christmas chaos and ill-advised life decisions? Double tick.

The season’s twist? The show is going all-in on new characters. No sign (so far) of Kate Winslet dramatically sobbing in front of snowy windows, Cameron Diaz making us want to quit our jobs, or Jude Law making cardigans look incredible. There’s also no Jack Black turning up with a soundtrack to your heartbreak.

Basically: this is a fresh cast, so the OG crew, as much as we adore them, won’t be making a return.

But there’s plenty to be excited about — promise. The script is in the hands of Krissie Ducker, with credits on Killing Eve and Sweetpea. I don’t know if that means that the series will be Christmasy with a murder twist, but I honestly don’t hate it!

Rob Delaney (yes, the Catastrophe one) is on board as a consultant, so the banter quota is near assured. Production is being handled by Left Bank Pictures, not the queen of twinkle lights herself, Nancy Meyers. She’s not involved, so start designing your own “aspirational English cottage” Pinterest board now.

Casting is apparently underway, with Apple TV+ on the lookout for some well-known faces to slip into the snow boots so let the fan casting begin!

Let’s not forget: The Holiday wasn’t just a rom-com — it was a Christmas box office powerhouse, clocking up over $200 million worldwide. And almost two decades on, it’s still the film you watch when you want to convince yourself that a random house swap could actually solve all your problems.

So, tuck this tidbit next to your mulled wine and advent calendar: soon there’ll be a new batch of love, heartbreak, and possibly disastrous British plumbing on our screens. No OG stars, but all the chaos and charm you know and love. Frankly, I can’t wait.
