BritBox President Promoted To BBC Studios Streaming Role

BritBox International President Robert Schildhouse has been promoted to run multiple BBC Studios streamers outside of the UK.

Schildhouse, who replaced now-Channel 5 boss Reemah Sakaan at BritBox two years ago, has become CEO of the newly-renamed BBC Studios Direct to Consumer business comprising BritBox in North America and BBC Select.

At BritBox, he has overseen a wealth of shows and co-pros at what has become something of a kingmaker for British shows struggling to get funding. Credits include The Other Bennet Sister, Blue Lights and the upcoming Tommy & Tuppence remake.

Schildhouse will also oversee BBC Select, which calls itself the “third largest documentary streamer in the US” and carries mostly BBC documentaries.

BBC Studios boss Tom Fussell said Schildhouse’s promotion is “testament to Robert’s leadership, and to the scale of opportunity in North America for our direct-to-consumer operations and the strategic importance to BBC Studios’ future growth and investment.” “Since BBC Studios acquired BritBox in 2024, the service has delivered fantastic results, driving significant revenue growth and building a highly loyal subscriber base,” he added.

Schildhouse said: “This has been an incredible time of growth for both BritBox and BBC Select, following a transformative few years for both our streaming businesses. I’m honored to step into this new role for BBC Studios and excited about what’s to come as we continue to build on our momentum and serve passionate fans of British storytelling.”

The news comes after Deadline revealed BBC Studios was merging production and sales in London to create a global content unit. L.A.-based sales boss Janet Brown has exited and will be replaced in London.
