The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, through the General Administration for Child Protection, followed up on the incident of 3 siblings being abandoned by their mother, in a street in the Zagazig Center in Sharkia Governorate, after video clips were circulated on social media sites showing the children being alone in the street without care or protection.
Immediately, Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, directed urgent intervention to protect the children. In coordination with the concerned authorities, the incident was referred to the General Child Protection Unit in Sharkia Governorate and the sub-unit in the Zagazig Center, with the situation being followed up in full coordination with the Office for Child Protection, Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly in the Office of the Attorney General Counsel.
Dr. Sahar Al-Sunbati explained that urgent field action was taken by the Child Protection Unit to study the condition of the children and provide them with the necessary support and care, as it was found that the three children are: a boy who is about four years old, and two girls, one of whom is 2 years old. 3 years and the other about one year, and they are the children of a woman who married in a common-law marriage to a person, and she was unable to prove their lineage to him according to her statements.
For his part, Dr. Wael Abdel Razek, Secretary-General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, stated that in light of the results of the field follow-up and investigations, and after confirming that there is no reliable breadwinner or reliable person to whom the children can be handed over, the Council recommended that the children be placed in one of the government hospitals to receive medical and psychological care. necessary, especially after what the video clips showed of their exposure to the street for a long period without shelter or care.
He added that after their health condition stabilizes, and in accordance with the medical reports issued by the competent authorities, the children will be placed in one of the social care homes appropriate to their condition, in full coordination with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, in implementation of the recommendation of the General Administration for Child Rescue. The necessary legal measures will also be taken by the Public Prosecution to register the children in the birth records in the name of their known mother, in accordance with the established legal procedures, including It guarantees the protection of their identity and the preservation of their legal rights.
Sabry Othman, Director of the General Administration for Child Relief, confirmed that this incident constitutes exposing children to danger in accordance with the provisions of Article (96) of the Children’s Law No. 12 of 1996, as amended by Law No. 126 of 2008, indicating that the Council continues to follow up the situation to ensure that all means of care and protection are provided to the children, with the necessary measures that achieve their best interest, in commitment to the national and humanitarian role. The Council undertakes to protect children in the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood appreciates the tireless efforts made by the Public Prosecution, and the Office for the Protection of Children, Persons with Disabilities and the Elderly in the Office of the Counselor and Attorney General, in quickly rescuing children from a state of danger and taking the necessary measures to protect their rights.
