Climate change protesters block off major Melbourne bridge – causing traffic delays across the city

Melbourne motorists face a nightmare commute into work after a climate change protesters blocked one of the city’s busiest roads.

Activists took over the northbound lanes of Punt Road over the Yarra River bridge between Alexandra Avenue and Olympic Boulevard during the Friday morning peak hour rush.

Footage showed protesters standing in the middle of the road holding signs as police directed traffic.

Some activists were holding Extinction Rebellion signs.

‘Northbound traffic on Punt Road, South Yarra is now sharing the southbound lanes over the Yarra River to pass a protest,’ a VicTraffic alert states.

‘Please follow the direction of Victoria Police and allow extra time when travelling in the area.’

Motorists should expect delays of up to half an hour northbound and 50 minutes southbound.

Surrounding roads are also heavily congested.

‘Who are these protesters who cut the traffic on the bridge in Punt Road? This is so annoying!’ one commuter fumed.
