Director of the Library of Alexandria: We are ready to support scientific studies and deepen cultural communication with South Korea

The Director of the Library of Alexandria, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, confirmed the readiness of the Library of Alexandria to participate with a delegation of specialists in the history of ancient writings, due to the importance of this event in supporting scientific studies and deepening cultural communication between Egypt and South Korea.
This came during Zayed’s meeting today with the Director of the National Hangeul Museum in the Republic of South Korea, Kang Jung-jun, and his accompanying delegation during his visit to the Library of Alexandria, in a working visit that comes within the framework of activating the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides in 2017. 2023, where the Library of Alexandria was represented in this cooperation by the Center for Graph Studies, affiliated with the academic research sector, with the aim of supporting joint work in the fields of academic research and cultural exchange.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to develop future cooperation, most notably the preparation for organizing an international conference in South Korea in 2026 entitled: “The History of Deciphering the Writings of Ancient Civilizations,” which coincides with the celebration of the National Day of Hangeul Writing in South Korea.
The Korean delegation visited the museums. And the specialized sections, in addition to the cultural panorama, where members of the delegation were briefed on the most prominent scientific and cultural activities and programs implemented by the library.
It is noteworthy that Hangul is the Korean writing system that was developed in the fifteenth century by King Sejong the Great, and is considered one of the most advanced and simple writing systems, as it is distinguished by its unique structure based on shapes that represent the exits of the letters and the way they are pronounced. Hangul is an essential element in the Korean cultural identity, and is celebrated annually on National Day. To write it in appreciation of its historical and cultural value.
