During his reception of the Swedish ambassador, Sheikh of Al-Azhar: There is no freedom to insult religious sanctities
The Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, received Ambassador Dag Paulin Danflett, the new Swedish ambassador to Egypt.
His Eminence the Grand Imam stressed that the crimes of burning the Holy Qur’an that Sweden and some countries witnessed during the past years provoked the feelings of two billion Muslims around the world, because of the sanctity that the Holy Qur’an represents to Muslims, stressing the need to take firm measures to prevent the recurrence of these crimes that are not acceptable. It can be justified under the slogan “freedom of expression.” His Eminence stressed that there is no freedom to insult religious sanctities.
His Eminence denounced: What is the relationship between freedom of opinion and insulting religions and holy books?! Pointing out that the continuation of such acts threatens human values and works to spread hatred in societies, stressing that governments must prevent these violations and enact laws that deter them, as it is a major responsibility that must be adhered to.
For his part, the Swedish ambassador expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Sheikh of Al-Azhar in promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence, stressing that the Swedish people respect all religions and reject any hostile actions.
