Egypt launches the Atom Solar complex for solar panels in an international partnership in the Suez Canal

Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, witnessed today the laying of the foundation stone for the “Atom Solar” complex. The huge complex for the production of solar panels and modules in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (Teda Industrial Zone).
The complex is being built on an area of 204 thousand square meters in an integrated investment partnership that brings together companies from Egypt, China, the Emirates and Bahrain, and the volume of its investments amounts to about 210 million dollars.
This project comes as an executive framework for the national strategy for industrial development that aims to promote green industries and clean energy. The minister stressed that the complex is a strategic step towards localizing the technology of manufacturing solar energy components locally, as it includes the establishment of two factories with an annual production capacity of 2 gigawatts for solar cells and 2 gigawatts for solar modules.
The minister explained that this project will enhance Egypt’s contribution to the transition to renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions, as the solar modules factory is expected to feed the local market and surrounding markets, while the production of the solar cell factory will be fully exported to the American market, with the provision of about 840 job opportunities. Directly.
This project is one of the applied models for translating the industry promotion plan, and aims to reduce dependence on importing components and open new export markets, especially in Africa and the Middle East, which confirms that the Egyptian industry is moving steadily towards building an advanced production base capable of competing.
Representatives of the partner companies participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony, and the minister also witnessed on the sidelines of the event the signing of the contract to establish the complex between the Chinese company JA Solar and its partners. From Egypt, the Emirates and Bahrain.
